MEET
THE LIBRARIAN
Ms. Kellie came to White Oak Middle from Kingwood
High. She used to teach English, so she loves to read. When not in
the
library
you may find her curled up on a rainy day with a good book like Uglies,
Vampire Academy, any Chris Crutcher novel, or perhaps napping and
dreaming. Sometimes you might even see her at the movies with her
family stuffing Snowcaps in her mouth while "following the
white rabbit" along with Neo into the Matrix , or dodging
an Orc blade while fighting alongside Aragorn and the Forces of
Light. One day
Ms. Kellie would like to travel to every place in the world that
has ancient ruins, thus making it neccessary to add oodles of pages
to
her passport...but until then she remains in reality. So far she
has only been to Brazil, Ireland, Mexico and China. She still has
a few
hundred places to go. Here in Texas, her favorite things are writing,
listening to really great music, the smell of cholorine in the
summer
and making people smile. |

Did you know that you can use the
Harris County Public Library system with your Montgomery County
Library Card? So, if you live in Kingwood and it would be easier
to stop in at that library, bring your card along and check out
books there....it's that easy. Click on the link to search their
catalogue and put books on hold. |

The brainchild of Michael Hart, Project Gutenberg includes lots
of famous and important texts that are freely available to everyone
in the world! There are over 20,000 ebooks that you can download
and read for free. So, if you forgot your book at school, check
here and see if you can find it online. |

The best part of the Houston Public Library site for teens is their
SPORTS PAGE, although I also enjoy RANDOM DIVERSIONS. However, this
site is heavy with other informatioin that is worth time--if you
are a teen that is. |
|

Homework help, writing advice, graphic novels guide, poetry wikis,
sports, money, jobs--another great place for teens and to get the
straight skinny on life. |

...a great place to order books if WOMS library doesn't have them.
Just use your library card to reserve a book on line. The librarians
there will email you and let you know when your book is ready to
pick up! They also have way more audio books both to reserve and
to download. |

Research Stuff
If you have to research a topic for class, it's smarter to start
with databases. Databases are provided by the state with the
taxes your parents or guardians pay. These sources are already
approved, and you don't have to worry about evaluating them
to see if they are fake. They are available through the Internet,
but they are not considred Internet sources. These are controlled
sources while anyone can post on the Internet. |
 |
Feeling
like you're not ready for TAKS? Not to worry. Study Island will
give you all the practice you need to make TAKS day a breeze. |
 |
We
are so lucky to have access to these research databases. These
databases cover all subjects and are valid sources you don't
need to worry about evaluating. Students who are working on
a research project about Native Americans, penguins, the Pythagorean
Theory or teachers who need an article while studying for their
Master's program....If you need an article about anything...begin
and end your search here. |
 |
This
searchable database includes seven other databases, as well
as an online dictionary and encyclopedia. Just the encyclopedia
alone has 51,000 entries and 84,000 cross links. How can you
go wrong? |
 |
Did
you know that World Book hosts contests, includes current events,
and even has an interactive atlas you can use? Don't miss out
on this rich database while you are conducting your school research. |
 |
This
is a fantastic place to go if you need a jumping off point for
research. Type in a subject and Brittannica will give you basic
information, lnks to other resources, and if you are lucky,
audio/video streams. |
 |
Occupational
Outlook Handbook
Interested in becoming a zookeeper, a brazer, or an abstractor?
Don't know what those are? This database will not only tell
you what those are, but also what you could earn doing this
jobs, the education you need and the potential for a job opening
in the future. |
